Job Vacancy - Trainee Solicitor Required Friday 22nd of September 2017

We are looking for a Trainee Solicitor to commence their training contract with the firm in January 2018.

Based in Aykley Heads, Durham City, we are a full service law firm. We have dedicated teams for dispute resolution, employment, family, property, corporate & commercial and private client services.

We recently won Law Firm of the Year (6+ Partners) at the 2017 Northern Law Awards and also took home the award for Dispute Resolution Team of the Year. These awards come on the back of winning Property Team of the Year in 2016.

We are very forward thinking and have grown significantly over the past 10 years, resulting in us doubling the size of our office in January of this year. With a major refurbishment of our premises planned to start in October 2017, which will create a modern and innovative environment for both our staff and clients, it is a very exciting time to think about joining this firm.

The successful candidate will commence their training contract with the firm in January 2018 within the Dispute Resolution department.

Experience will also be gained within other departments during the course of the training contract following completion of their training in Dispute Resolution.

As a trainee in the Dispute Resolution team, you would work alongside other lawyers (including 2 Partners) on a range of matters including:

  • Housing disrepair claims;
  • Commercial litigation;
  • Property litigation;
  • Probate litigation;
  • Debt recovery;
  • Personal Injury.

Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 2:1 in their undergraduate degree and have completed their LPC or equivalent qualification.

Legal experience (paid or unpaid) is desirable but not strictly necessary as full training will be provided.

You must also:

  • be pro-active in terms of managing your workload and developing your own legal skills;
  • possess excellent organisational skills;
  • have exceptional attention to detail; and
  • have strong communication skills and be willing to interact and build relationships within the professional community.

If this sounds like you, please email your CV together with a short covering letter/email to Carolyn Beal at

Closing Date:           5pm on 31st October 2017

N.B. Early applications are encouraged as we are expecting a high number of applicants.
