Job Vacancies: Trainee Solicitor x 2

Swinburne Maddison LLP, County Durham’s leading law firm, is looking for two Trainee Solicitors to commence their training with the firm: one in September 2018 and one in March 2019.

Based in Aykley Heads, Durham City, Swinburne Maddison LLP is a full service law firm. They have dedicated teams for dispute resolution, employment, family, property, corporate & commercial and private client services.

They recently won Law Firm of the Year (6+ Partners) at the 2017 Northern Law Awards where they also took home the award for Dispute Resolution Team of the Year. These awards come on the back of winning Property Team of the Year in 2016.

The firm is committed to investing in our trainees for the long term, and is extremely proud of its very high retention rate with over 75% of the current members of the Partnership having trained with the firm.

The firm is very forward thinking and has grown significantly over the past 10 years, resulting in them doubling the size of their office in 2017. With a major refurbishment of their premises having just been completed, which has created a modern and innovative environment for both their staff and clients, it is a very exciting time to think about joining this firm.

Role

One successful candidate will commence their “period of recognised training” with the firm in September 2018 and another in March 2019.  The firm takes a slightly different approach to graduate recruitment and operates a more flexible training programme which is tailored around each trainee, as opposed to the traditional rigid programme of fixed “seats”.  Trainees will therefore be placed in one of our existing departments to begin their training and will thereafter work in at least 2 other departments.  This structure allows trainees to enjoy a fully rounded experience and the length of time in each department will vary.

Qualifications

Applicants should have achieved a minimum of 2:1 in their undergraduate degree and have completed their LPC or equivalent qualification by the date of commencement.

Legal experience (paid or unpaid) is desirable but not strictly necessary as full training will be provided.

  • be pro-active in terms of managing your workload and developing your own legal skills;  
  • possess excellent organisation skills;
  • have exceptional attention to detail; and
  • have strong communication skills and be willing to interact and build relationships within the professional community.
