The recent Newcastle Law Society Annual Awards dinner saw Swinburne Maddison’s Allan Devine accredited with ‘Lawyer of the Year’ status.
At the dinner, held on 20th November 2014 at Newcastle Civic Centre, Allan (pictured second right) received the award alongside eight other recipients as part of the Crime Support Group which was set up in opposition to government proposals to curtail legal aid in criminal matters.
The award stressed the importance of the promptness and professionalism displayed by the group, which formed only a matter of days after the government proposals came to light. Alongside other firms, the award recognises the commitment of Swinburne Maddison to opposing the cuts and promoting the interest of clients.
In recognition of the award, Allan said: "It is a great honour to receive such an accolade."
"It also acknowledges the extremely important work of a number of individuals who helped to gather together the views of local solicitors and generate a huge response from criminal solicitors across the North."
“The interests of our clients are paramount and would have been radically affected had the proposals not been opposed. Our work will continue until a satisfactory outcome is achieved."
