We are absolutely delighted to announce that Swinburne Maddison LLP picked up not one but TWO awards at last night’s Northern Law Awards.
At the awards ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle, we succeeded in fending off competition from a wealth of legal talent to take home Property Team of the Year and Young Lawyer of the Year for Partner, David Low.
Speaking about the property team’s win, Partner and head of the commercial arm of the team, Victoria Walton, said: “It has been an incredible year for the property team, and indeed the firm as a whole, and I am delighted to take this award away to share with everyone who has contributed to our success. The property team has seen significant growth over the last few years, both in terms of caseload and personnel, and I am very proud to work alongside some of the finest lawyers in the region.
“By recruiting across a wide range of specialisms, we have ensured that the property team continues to deliver the high level of bespoke legal advice that our clients have come to expect. In fact, we are currently looking to recruit two more solicitors to further strengthen the team, so whoever fills those positions will be joining us at a very exciting time!”
“But this award goes further than the property team – the support we receive from other departments within the firm is second to none, ensuring that we have the resources to provide expert legal advice on all manner of complex property matters. It really is a great team effort across the whole firm.”
Speaking about being named Young Lawyer of the Year, Partner, David Low, commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have received this award. It was a really strong category this year, with 6 other excellent lawyers shortlisted, so the judges had a tough choice! It is a real honour to be named Young Lawyer of the Year and I am looking forward to building on this success by throwing myself into the next big challenge and continuing to develop and strengthen the service offering of our litigation team.”
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank my fellow Partners for their support and encouragement over the years, particularly Jonathan Moreland, who has been a great mentor to me since I joined the firm as a Trainee Solicitor in 2007 and who backed me every step of the way as I strove to expand the property litigation team and contribute to the growth of the firm.”
The firm was shortlisted for five awards in total: Law Firm of the Year, Corporate/Commercial Team of the Year, Property Team of the Year, Employment Team of the Year and Young Lawyer of the Year (David Low), with Trainee Solicitor, Adam Chaffer, also shortlisted in the Pro Bono/Community Initiative category for work which he carried out prior to joining Swinburne Maddison last year.
It was also a big night for Associate Member of CILEx, Helen Griffiths, who was invited to be on the judging panel for the Trainee of the Year category and who did a magnificent job of presenting the joint winners with their awards last night.
These awards really are the icing on the cake of a fantastic year for Swinburne Maddison LLP. Last night’s success follows our recent announcement of a significant 25 per cent increase in annual turnover and further plans to create nine new jobs by the autumn. With the firm continuing to see growth across all departments, it is an exciting time to be a part of the Swinburne Maddison team.
