It was a night to celebrate legal talent and success from across the region and staff at Swinburne Maddison LLP were delighted to see Partner, and Head of the Corporate Team, Martyn Tennant, pick up the Young Lawyer of the Year award at last Thursday’s Northern Law Awards.
This award comes at the end of a buoyant year for Swinburne Maddison, with the firm beating its growth targets by two years and increasing its annual turnover by some 15 per cent against the previous year and by more than 40 per cent over the last five years. Martyn’s role in this success cannot be understated, with the Commercial Team being responsible for 20 per cent of the firm’s annual turnover and it is contributions such as this which were recognised by the judges of the Young Lawyer of the Year category when they selected Martyn as the winner of the award ahead of four other very accomplished lawyers.
Speaking of his win, Martyn said, “When I qualified with Swinburne Maddison in 2007, my aim was to help develop a strong corporate and commercial team within the firm and to offer clients an alternative to the existing Newcastle-based law firms. I was absolutely delighted to be presented with the Young Lawyer of the Year award at the Northern Law Awards as I see this as a reflection of just how far the department has come in a relatively short space of time. I would like to take the opportunity to thank my fellow Partners for the trust and support they have shown me over the last five years as I have built a team which is recognised as one of the leading service providers in the North East.”
Managing Partner, John Davison said, “Martyn’s award for Young Lawyer of the Year couldn’t be more deserved. It recognises both his achievements in his legal work and also his contribution to the growth and success of the Firm since he became Partner in 2010. I know that I speak on behalf of everyone at the firm when I say that we are immensely proud of the impact that Martyn has had, both within the Firm and in the wider legal community. A truly great achievement for someone who is still at the beginning of what I am sure will be a very long and successful career.”
