Swinburne Maddison LLP is pleased to announce that Allan Devine (pictured), a highly experienced solicitor who specialises in criminal and family law, has been elected as a Member of the Law Society Council for Northumbria.
Although this is his first national role, Allan is currently a co-opted member of the Standing Committee of Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society. His term of office is for four years with effect from 10 July 2014.
The role will involve him attending seven Council Meetings per annum and a similar number of committee meetings if asked to serve on one of the committees. Generally, these are held in London.
Commenting on his election, Allan said, “I am delighted and honoured to have this opportunity to gain experience at a national level. The individuals involved are at a very high level in their careers and this will be a very steep learning curve for me. However, it builds on my experience on the Newcastle upon Tyne Standing Committee and my involvement in regional issues so I am looking forward to the challenge.”
John Davison, managing partner at Swinburne Maddison, added, “This is excellent news for Allan and for Swinburne Maddison to be representing the regional legal community nationally. It provides the perfect opportunity for us to be involved in issues that affect the profession, while at the same time, recognises the contribution Allan has already made within the region.”
