Lawyer - Conveyancing Team

Swinburne Maddison LLP, County Durham’s leading law firm, is looking for a residential property lawyer to join the busy conveyancing team early in the new year.

Based in Aykley Heads, Durham City, Swinburne Maddison LLP is a full service law firm. We have dedicated teams for dispute resolution, employment, property, corporate & commercial, family and private client services.

We won Law Firm of the Year (6+ Partners) at the 2017 Northern Law Awards and were nominated for Property (Residential) Team of the Year at the 2018 Northern Law Awards.

The firm is very forward thinking and has grown significantly over the past 10 years, resulting in us recently doubling the size of our office. A major refurbishment of our premises was completed in February 2018, which has created a modern and innovative environment for our staff and clients. It is a very exciting time to think about joining this firm.

The vacancy is due to retirement of an existing solicitor, so the successful candidate will have an existing caseload to start work on, with the aim for further developing and increasing the work coming into the department. The successful applicant will cover all aspects of residential property work and must be experienced in dealing with freehold and leasehold purchases as well as new build properties and purchases through the Help to Buy Scheme.  We receive work from a variety of sources including referral arrangements and existing clients and aim always to provide exceptional client care. Excellent communication skills and IT skills, preferably being used to a case management system, are therefore also required.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive. A staff benefits package is in place which includes a salary sacrifice scheme, additional holiday scheme, death in service benefit, health cash back plan and a generous contribution to the staff pension scheme.

Applicants must be qualified lawyers and already have demonstrable recent experience. Ideally the candidate will have at least 2 years PQE.

You must:

  • be pro-active in terms of managing your workload and continuation of development of your own legal skills;
  • possess excellent organisational skills;
  • have exceptional attention to detail;
  • have strong communication skills and a proven ability to work with clients in a proactive and empathetic manner; and
  • have an aptitude to develop your own career, the property department and the business.
