Lawyer - Family Team

Swinburne Maddison LLP, County Durham’s leading law firm, is looking for a family lawyer to commence employment as soon as possible.

Based in Aykley Heads, Durham City, Swinburne Maddison LLP is a full service law firm. We have dedicated teams for dispute resolution, employment, property, corporate & commercial, family and private client services.

We won Law Firm of the Year (6+ Partners) at the 2017 Northern Law Awards and were nominated for Family Team of the Year at the 2018 Northern Law Awards.

The firm is very forward thinking and has grown significantly over the past 10 years, resulting in us recently doubling the size of our office. A major refurbishment of our premises was completed in February 2018, which has created a modern and innovative environment for our staff and clients. It is a very exciting time to think about joining this firm.

The vacancy is due to retirement of an existing solicitor, so the successful candidate will have an existing caseload to start work on, with the aim for further developing and increasing the work coming into the department. The successful applicant will cover private family law and/or public family law depending on their experience and aptitude.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive. A staff benefits package is in place which includes a salary sacrifice scheme, additional holiday scheme, death in service benefit, health cash back plan and a generous contribution to the staff pension scheme.

Applicants must be qualified lawyers and already have demonstrable recent experience. Ideally the candidate will have at least 3 years PQE.

An existing professional network is desirable but not necessary, as opportunity will be provided for Business Development work.

You must:
• be pro-active in terms of managing your workload and continuation of development of your own legal skills;
• possess excellent organisational skills;
• have exceptional attention to detail;
• have strong communication skills and a proven ability to work with clients in a proactive and empathetic manner; and
• have an aptitude to develop your own career, the family department and the business.

If this sounds like you, please email your CV together with a short covering letter/email to Carolyn Beal at

Closing Date: 5pm on Monday 31st December 2018
