Property Litigation and Commercial Litigation Solicitor Vacancies

Swinburne Maddison LLP, County Durham’s leading commercial law firm, is looking for two Solicitors to join our Dispute Resolution department as soon as possible.

Based in Aykley Heads, Durham City, Swinburne Maddison LLP is a full service law firm. We have dedicated teams for dispute resolution, employment, property, corporate & commercial, family and private client services.

We won Law Firm of the Year (6+ Partners) at the 2017 Northern Law Awards when we also took home the award for Dispute Resolution Team of the Year. The Firm and the Dispute Resolution Team were finalists in both the 2018 and 2019 Awards.

The firm is very forward thinking and has grown significantly over the past 10 years, resulting in us recently doubling the size of our office. A major refurbishment of our premises was completed in 2018, which has created a modern and innovative environment for both our staff and clients. It is a very exciting time to think about joining this firm.

Two vacancies have arisen within the Dispute Resolution Team, with one role based exclusively in property litigation and another based primarily in commercial litigation. Successful candidates will enjoy a varied caseload covering a wide range of litigious instructions, as we seek to ensure the increased caseload of the firm is successfully managed and consolidate the continued growth of the client base of the firm. The successful candidates will work independently on their individual caseload and will assist Partners and other Solicitors on larger cases or projects.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and will be competitive. A staff benefits package is in place which includes a salary sacrifice scheme, additional holiday scheme, death in service benefit, health cash back plan and a generous contribution to the staff pension scheme.

Applicants must be qualified lawyers and already have demonstrable recent experience working in the area of law they choose to apply for. Ideally candidates will have at least 2 years PQE.

An existing professional network is desirable but not necessary, as opportunity will be provided for Business Development work.

You must:

  • be pro-active in terms of managing your workload and continuation of development of your own legal skills;
  • possess excellent organisation skills;
  • have exceptional attention to detail;
  • have strong communication skills and a proven ability to work and build relationships with both clients and the wider professional community;
  • have an aptitude to develop your own career, the Dispute Resolution department and the wider firm.
