Liam Musgrave is a Solicitor in Swinburne Maddison’s Dispute Resolution Team, having joined the firm as a Paralegal in June 2021, before progressing to a Trainee Solicitor and later qualifying in April 2024. Liam provides legal advice and representation to a diverse range of clients including individuals, businesses, and local authorities, across all areas of civil disputes.
Liam’s experience in the Commercial Property Team during his training contract helped develop his passion for Property Litigation. His ability to critically analyse complex legal issues, combined with his client-focused approach, allows him to achieve effective and practical solutions. Liam is particularly skilled at simplifying intricate legal concepts, ensuring his clients feel supported and well-informed throughout the process.

Liam has built a solid foundation in dispute resolution, particularly within Property Litigation. He regularly advises clients on possession proceedings, housing disrepair claims, landlord and tenant disputes, selective licensing matters, and consumer rights disputes, any many other areas. His day-to-day work includes reviewing contracts and leases, drafting Court documents and pleadings, advising on case merits, and interpreting statute and case law to provide strategic legal advice.
Since qualifying as a Solicitor, Liam has already secured significant successes for his clients. One notable achievement was securing an exemption in a complex Selective Licensing Dispute, enabling his individual client to avoid a potential fine of up to £30,000. Liam’s commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients is evident in his meticulous approach to case preparation and advocacy.
Liam is an active member of Swinburne Maddison’s Social Committee, helping to organise events and encouraging a positive workplace culture. He is passionate about creating an inclusive and engaging environment for colleagues through firm-wide events, including Summer and Christmas parties to team-building activities.
Liam is also an active member of Durham Business Club and often attends networking events and builds relationships with other professionals both within and outside of the legal sector.
Liam was awarded Trainee Solicitor of the Year at the Northern Law Awards 2024, where the judges praised him as an exceptional all-round candidate, highlighting his outstanding legal skills and strong client focus.
