Associate Solicitor, Dispute Resolution

James joined the firm’s Dispute Resolution team in March 2021 following his qualification as a Solicitor and was promoted to Associate Solicitor within the firm in May 2024.  He completed his LPC at Northumbria University and his training contract with a practice in Carlisle.

He is regularly instructed by businesses and individuals on a wide range of complex commercial matters, including those which involve:

  • allegations of unfairly prejudicial conduct under the Companies Act 2006;
  • allegations of commercial fraud or dishonest assistance;
  • high value debt or contract disputes;
  • professional negligence;
  • commercial partnerships;
  • claims involving breaches of fiduciary duties owed by directors;
  • housing disrepair;
  • property litigation

Outside of work, James is an unabashed bibliophile with a particular interest in late antiquity/medieval history.  Outside of books, he enjoys weightlifting and tending his vegetable garden.

Notable cases

James has been instructed in a number of complex commercial litigation matters including:

  • A number of claims involving the unfairly prejudicial management of a Company to the detriment of minority shareholders therein;
  • A claim of unlawful conspiracy within a shareholder dispute between intra-linked companies;
  • Acting as advocate in a multi-party dispute involving disputed service charges at a mixed residential-commercial tower block
