Blended families, also known as step-families, are on the rise in the UK. A blended family occurs when a couple starts a new life together, where they may have children from previous relationships and possibly children together.
Like all families, there can be benefits and challenges of a blended family. For example, a blended family can give the child(ren) a new extended family with more people to connect with, with different interests and personalities, however, they can also face challenges if the child(ren) is finding it hard to accept their parents are no longer together. It is therefore important for parents of a blended family to think ahead to prevent any problems that could potentially arise within the blended family or with their child(ren)’s other parent. An example of this could be during the school holidays.
The Easter Holidays are soon approaching, and parents will be keen to spend much-needed family time with their children while they are not at school. For separated parents, this involves juggling who gets what days during the Easter Holidays, if there is not an agreement in place already or there is no Child Arrangements Order. Separated parents must work together and discuss how the Easter Holidays are to be divided at the earliest opportunity to provide clarity and structure for parents and undoubtedly the child(ren). If you are having difficulties with contact arrangements for the upcoming Easter break it would be recommended that you seek legal advice discussing the possible ways to overcome this problem. Ultimately, the welfare of the child(ren) is the paramount consideration and where possible the child(ren) should spend quality time with both parents during the Easter holidays.
