Stress Awareness Month takes place every April and highlights the impact of stress on our mental and physical well-being. Most people will experience stress at some point in their lives—it’s our body’s natural response to pressure, and it can manifest in many different ways, depending on the individual.
Recognising the emotional and mental pressures we face is an important part of protecting our mental health. However, there are times when events outside of our control, such as the breakdown of a relationship, can significantly increase our stress levels.
As family lawyers, we regularly work with individuals navigating highly emotional and complex circumstances following the end of a relationship. Whether it’s divorce proceedings or making arrangements for children, these matters often come with significant uncertainty, which can be understandably stressful.
What does Stress Awareness Month aim to do?
This campaign seeks to:
- Educate the public about the causes and effects of stress
- Promote effective stress management techniques to support well-being
- Encourage open discussion to reduce stigma around stress and mental health
- Provide resources and tools to help individuals and organisations manage stress effectively
If you are facing any family law issues, it is natural to feel overwhelmed. Taking steps to manage your stress—whether by seeking support, setting boundaries, or accessing professional guidance—can make a meaningful difference.
If you are struggling and would like some practical support, you can find useful guidance and resources via the Stress Management Society’s website:
