Durham City Law firm backs effort to support regional businesses from the impact of Covid-19

Written by Swinburne Maddison

Swinburne Maddison LLP is pleased to announce that Partner, Jonathan Moreland, has been appointed as an Ambassador for the recently launched Open North Foundation.

Chaired by Richard Swart, Global Sales Director at Berger Group, the Open North Foundation (ONF) is a not-for-profit company dedicated to raising funds to support businesses recovering from the far-reaching impact of Covid-19.

In his role as Ambassador, Jonathan will stand alongside representatives from a range of leading North East businesses to promote the aims and objectives of ONF and to try and encourage other individuals and organisations to pledge whatever financial support they can to help ONF maximise available funds.

With over 25 years’ experience advising businesses and individuals across the North East – acting for national PLCs, limited companies, partnerships, charities and academic institutions – Jonathan also heads up the Employment and Dispute Resolution teams at Swinburne Maddison and is centrally involved with the management and strategic development of the firm.

Jonathan is also a member of the County Durham Growth Fund panel which provides capital grant funding to support businesses looking to expand or establish new operations in County Durham and, as an active supporter of North East business and a proud Durham business owner, he looks forward to bringing the benefit of his extensive experience to his new role at ONF.

Jonathan commented, “During my time as Partner of Swinburne Maddison, I have had the immense privilege of watching the firm evolve and grow into the business it is today.  I know that this would not have been possible without the hard work and talent of our team and also the support of our local business community and the loyalty of our most longstanding clients.

“These are unprecedented times that we’re living in and I believe it is incumbent on established businesses like Swinburne Maddison to do what we can to provide support and reassurance to the businesses in our community who face a more uncertain future and to help them access the help they need to survive the challenges ahead.

“I am incredibly proud to be an Ambassador for Open North Foundation and would encourage anyone who is able to do so to visit the ONF website and pledge your support to the fund.  All donations will help support vulnerable businesses and safeguard the economic future of our region in the wake of this pandemic.”

Subject to the success of ONF’s fundraising efforts, grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 will be available to any businesses which can deliver long-term positive economic impact and create meaningful employment for the region.
