Swinburne Maddison LLP (Swinburne Maddison), one of the leading law firms in County Durham, has welcomed a new client to its commercial portfolio – Decon Industries Ltd (Decon), a supplier of engineered valve products and associated equipment for the power and petrochemical industries.
Swinburne Maddison acted in the preparation of the lease agreement and landlord fit out works for Decon as the firm signed a 10-year lease agreement at Medway House, Belmont Industrial Estate, marking a new phase in its development.
Although headquartered at Tanfield Lea Business Centre, Decon has manufacturing resources in several locations, subsidiary companies in Hong Kong and India plus a representative office in Beijing. These new premises totalling some 5,850 sq ft with an adjoining 6,400 sq ft yard, will be utilised for both industrial and manufacturing purposes as well as providing ancillary offices.
Speaking about the move, Decon’s managing director, Neil Eckford said:
“We chose Swinburne Maddison because of their client focused approach and their expertise in complex, high value landlord and tenant matters. The firm is also County Durham based, with good, local knowledge, which we felt was important.
We currently have a plant in Elland, near Halifax, as well as an office at Tanfield Lea, and it seemed sensible to merge the operations currently taking place at these locations into one at the new Belmont site. From here, we will be able to expand, creating new jobs for young people as well as being able to showcase a fully integrated manufacturing, design and administration organisation under one roof, which we haven’t been able to do before. This is a significant development for our business.
Although I grew up in North West Durham, my home is currently in Beijing, but I still retain very strong ties with the area and will always look to use local service providers such as Swinburne Maddison whenever possible. The firm has provided a professional, efficient and friendly service which we much appreciate.”
Victoria Walton, partner and head of Swinburne Maddison’s commercial property department commented:
“We were delighted that Decon approached us to undertake this work. Our commercial team is highly experienced, and we are pleased to have been able to assist the company with its move into Belmont Industrial Estate.
We understand that once the firm is established at Medway House, there are plans to expand the workforce with the creation of new opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, business administration and sales, so we hope that this first instruction marks the start of an ongoing relationship with Neil and the team.”
