David Low
Partner, Dispute Resolution
David is a Partner in the firm’s Dispute Resolution team having joined Swinburne Maddison LLP in 2007 as a Trainee Solicitor. He qualified in 2009 and became a Partner at the firm in 2014. At the 2016 Northern Law Awards, David was named “Young Lawyer of the Year”.
In The Legal 500 United Kingdom 2020 edition, David is described as a “first class lawyer” and praised by clients and professional contacts for his “fantastic attention to detail [and] ability to explain complex legal jargon in a way that just makes sense.”
In February 2024, David Low was appointed as a Deputy District Judge for the North Eastern circuit and assigned to the Cleveland, Durham and Northumberland (CND) area. When sitting as a DDJ, David is responsible for dealing with a range of civil cases in the County Court including housing and property disputes, contractual and commercial disputes, personal injury and money claims.
Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his young family and is heavily involved in the North East swimming community sitting on the Board of the Northumberland & Durham Swimming Association.
Experience
With particular expertise in property litigation, David works closely with a number of the firm’s largest clients in the management of their housing stock. He advises and represents clients in relation to all manner of commercial and residential property related issues including Tribunal, County Court and High Court representation. David’s caseload includes a significant amount of commercial litigation including breach of contract claims and professional negligence actions as well as debt recovery work for both individuals and companies.
Notable cases
David assists on employment matters, including representation for both Claimants and Respondents dealing with contentious and non-contentious instructions. A career highlight was the leading of a high profile complex disability discrimination case which was resolved in the client’s favour following a 10 day final hearing.
Professional memberships
David is a member of the Property Litigation Association. In March 2021 he was elected onto the Standing Committee of the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society which represents over 800 solicitors across the region, promoting the skill and expertise of the profession.
