Swinburne Maddison Welcomes New Trainee Solicitors as Part of Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme

Leading North East law firm Swinburne Maddison has welcomed three new trainee solicitors to the firm as part of a new annual graduate recruitment programme designed to support the next generation of legal talent.

Recognised for its commitment to developing and retaining people, the Durham-based firm holds Silver Investors in People accreditation and has built a strong reputation for nurturing successful legal careers.

Adam Khan, John Crozier and Kayley Skinner will join the firm’s trainee solicitor programme this October, alongside current trainees Charlotte Cassell, Rebecca Tinsley and Sian Thurkettle.

The appointments form part of Swinburne Maddison’s commitment to recruiting a new cohort of trainee solicitors each year, creating a clear pathway for aspiring lawyers looking to build their careers within a supportive and ambitious full-service law firm.

The firm’s Trainee Solicitor Programme is designed to provide hands-on experience across a wide range of legal disciplines. Through a series of seat rotations, trainees gain exposure to different areas of law, helping them develop their technical expertise while discovering where their passion and strengths truly lie.

The programme provides trainees with meaningful responsibility from the outset, alongside dedicated support and supervision from experienced lawyers throughout their training contract.

Swinburne Maddison has developed an enviable track record for nurturing and retaining talent. Nearly all trainee solicitors who have qualified through the firm over the past decade have remained with the business on qualification, with many progressing into senior leadership positions. Several of the firm’s current partners began their careers as trainees at Swinburne Maddison, reflecting the firm’s long-term commitment to investing in its people.

Over the last 12 months alone, the firm has celebrated the qualification of five trainee solicitors through its programme; Grace Ridsdale, Adam McWilliams, Max Atkinson, Olivia Fisher and Imogen Bosanko.

David Low, Training Partner at Swinburne Maddison, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Adam, John and Kayley to the firm. The standard of applications we receive for our training contracts continues to be exceptionally high, which is a testament to the reputation Swinburne Maddison has built as a place where talented people can develop successful and fulfilling legal careers.”

“Our trainees are an important part of the future of the business. Throughout their training, they are encouraged to take an active role in client work, build strong relationships with colleagues and gain the confidence needed to thrive as solicitors. We want trainees to feel supported, challenged and empowered to make a meaningful contribution from the very beginning of their careers.”

“We view training contracts as the start of a long-term relationship rather than a fixed-term role. We are incredibly proud of the culture we have created, one that invests in people, supports their development and provides opportunities to progress.”

The annual trainee intake reflects Swinburne Maddison’s ongoing commitment to investing in future legal talent and strengthening the firm’s position as one of the North East’s leading law firms. Through its structured trainee programme, the firm continues to provide aspiring solicitors with a supportive environment in which to learn, develop and build successful legal careers.

Applications for Swinburne Maddison’s 2027 and 2028 trainee solicitor intakes will open in March 2027. The firm welcomes applications from aspiring solicitors looking to build their careers within a supportive, ambitious and full-service law firm.
